Woke up early Wednesday morning feeling a bit fluey, so took some meds, I think all the lack of sleep then in/out of hot/cold in the data center and the weekend work didn’t help much. Did some final small things for the trip online. Finished all my last minute packing and did the normal chores like washing up and stuff and was then all ready to head out. T wasn’t able to drop me at the airport as he had a few personal things going on to sort out so asked another buddy. Got to airport in plenty of time and checked in, flight is pretty full. They called me to the Business Class counter at the checkin so I joked “so does that mean I can fly business class?” … ha ha – no such luck, had to ask hey !!! I’m sure they hear the “how about an upgrade” 100s of times a day.
Found myself a spot next to a Vodacom power charging thing so keeping my tech batteries full while I tinker online. I could login to the AlwaysOn WiFi here with my ISP a/c details so that passed some time chatting to people etc.
As expected the flight was pretty full, had a pleasant couple next to me. After we reached cruising altitude we were served a nice lunch. The full menu for the CPT-DXB flight is here for those interested.
My choice (of the main meal) was:
Appetiser: Greek salad (which includes lettuce leaves, cucumber, tomato and feta cheese with black olives
Main Course: Braised beef with onions served with mashed potatoes, peas and young carrots
Dessert: Chocolate ganache – light chocolate ganache cake, served with strawberry coulis and chocolate garnish
Was super tasty I was very satisfied after feating on that. Watched a movie (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) on the ICE system. Was pretty arb, nothing that great.
Witnessed a REALLY COOL sunset – check the following few pics.
Managed to kinda doze a little but not really. My stupid blowup neck cushion thing must have a leak somewhere as it doesn’t stay inflated. Oh well.
Later in the flight they served us a yummy dinner. My choice (of the main meal) was:
Appetiser: Smoked chicken and coleslaw salad tender smoked chicken, served with coleslaw salad and cocktail tomato
Main Course: Chicken taouk. Middle Eastern-style marinated chicken thigh, served with roasted potatoes, grilled mushroom, onion and peppers, drizzled with lemon garlic sauce
Dessert: Raspberry frangipane served with crème Anglaise
Got to Dubai International Airport a bit earlier than expected, my flight to Amsterdam isn’t even on the board so dunno what gate to go sit near, so just wanderer around a bit. The place is pumping, and it it is 2am …. wow. Managed to get 30min free Wifi but nothing more without paying. That sucks …. but not for long though, I changed my en0 WiFi MAC and cleared browser cookies and I’m back online with another 30min. Nice !!!! Turns out it is just the cookies and not the MAC that did it. I couldn’t find any place to charge my laptop which was not cool (still had battery but wanted to charge a bit anyway) last time I was here they had loads of charging stands. Unless I am just not seeing them where I am. Well … did find a few plugs but are the square UK style ones, and that adapter is in my suitcase so I can’t charge. Not serious.
Not gonna waffle any more now as I’m going to wander around and try and keep awake. Not going to be easy. Is now 4:05am and flight is only at 8:25am so … a LONG time still. I know a coffee would be good idea, but I don’t feel like one right now, so just had a McDonald’s Ice Cream cone for AED3.
