Flights back to SA

2014/08/09

Friday brought the end to my 2014 European holiday. My flight was 16:10 from Barcelona. After my morning activities I started the long mission home. I headed to Plaça de Catalunya as at Universitat you can only get off there not on. Was a bit of a longer walk than I’d have liked but got there no problem. Got on the Aerobus right away and then was on my way to the airport, took 30min to get there.

Checked in fine, my bag was 20.8kg which was fine. Is weird that the normal checkin queues move way quicker than the online checkin queue, doesn’t quite seem right that logic but anyway. I went through fine and then got to this place where you could go through one set of gates to gates A,B,C the others were to D & E – I needed to go to D … dunno if you could go to the other security for D as well. Cause … that was where all the cool shops were etc. so I went through D and then was stuck with 1 lame Duty free shop, a kak expensive food place (a normal sandwich was something like E5.25) and a McDonald’s which sucked big time. I did have 3 * BBQ Chicken Burgers for E1 each (didn’t really want McD but thought I better eat something), they only had 2 ready so waited for the 3rd, then was sitting and about to eat the last one and they had messed that up and gave me a fish burger by mistake so had to go back to the counter and get that swapped.

The plane back to Dubai was one of the the big A380-800’s which was cool.

Was some annoying kid a few rows away that just wouldn’t shut up telling his parents everything he could about what he was watching on TV etc. I didn’t manage to get any sleep at all on that flight. Had a nice tasty dinner (saw someone have the other chicken option and was pleased I picked the lamb) :

Had 3 or so hours to chill in Dubai, looked round and bought a few odds and ends to use up a few AED I had left over. Had to take the train thing to Gate B1 which was quick and easy to get there. The plane was just a normal plane (not the A380-800), our plane was miles away so everyone had to pile on a bus to get to the plane, was about 3:30am and you can’t even imagine how hot it was at that time of night. Got onboard fine, I had a decent seat and managed to get a decent amount of sleep which was good.

We got in a bit early which was good and then my bag came out super quick, went through passport control, got asked at customs if I was on business or pleasure and if I had anything to declare, told them the truth, which was no, so they just checked my passport and I was through. Met Tim & James, was really cool to see them. Picked up a milk and some rolls from the Woolworths at the airport and then got home to unpack and relax for the rest of the day.
