Hockenheim race weekend

2014/07/21

Oops – this post was supposed to be posted before the other Hockenheim ones – sorry about that.

The Hockenheim F1GP (or Formula 1 Grosser Preis Santander Von Deutschland 2014 if you want the full technical name) was the biggest event of my trip (from the spectacle and also from the cost aspect). Anyone who knows I was planning this trip will know how it took me ages to decide on the location of the tickets that I wanted and all that but I am super pleased with what I chose and the whole experience.

For my local travel I bought a 3 day pass which allowed me to travel from Mannheim to and from Hockenheim daily and also to use the trams in Mannheim as well (well that’s what the info desk told me so I’m going with that) so that was a good thing to get.

The train to Hockenheim takes about 18min and then there were shuttle busses to the circuit (about 5-10min trip), both of which were packed at times. Once in the area it was about a 1km walk to the track. Took a little while to figure where to get my ticket from on Friday but managed to get that OK in the end. I hadn’t taken much food/drink with on the Friday as Tim rekoned you probably wouldn’t be allowed to take in. Well … you could take anything you liked in so I bought there on Friday and I took with for the next 2 days, which saved BIG TIME on very inflated food/drink prices.

The weather was 30-35C the 1st 2 days so was quite unbearable, Sunday was a lot better and maybe only 27C, it even rained a little on way to track and then before the GP2 (or was it GP3 I forget) it rained quite steadily as well. For the heat I ensured I had on ample sunscreen to protect myself from getting burned. I am getting quite a nice tan on my trip in general. I will need to definitely get some new slops when I see a pair I like at a decent price, I have a nice strops tan – LOL.

After thinking about the quantity of info I have to share I think I am going to need to spilt the Hockenheim/F1GP post into a few smaller ones. This will be an overview/intro and then there will be a few more specific ones (where I’ll include more info and pics from that aspect). Initial thinking is that I will have posts for:
